![]() HYPERPYRUS THE HYPERPYRUS ARCHIVES: Old Home Page News 21 August 2008 Those of you who will be in the vicinity of Augusta, Maine on Wednesday, September 10th are encouraged to mark your calendars! The Barnes & Noble at 9 Marketplace Drive is hosting its Focus on New England event starting at 6 PM. On hand for signing and chat with local writers and artists will be (in no particular order): Robin MacCready, Sandra Dutton, Karen Jordan Allen, Ellen Booraem, James A. Hetley, Jeannie Brett, Carrie Jones, Theodore Chaffee, Helen Stevens, Deb Landry, and yours truly. This covers a wide range of genres, including adult nonfiction, children's picture books, fantasy, YA mysteries, and more. We look forward to meeting you! 20 May 2008 I belong to the Capital Area Camera Club, and this year's annual members' show, "Mystic Maine Waters," is now installed (until 13 June) at the L/A Arts Community Gallery in Lewiston, Maine. My photograph entitled "The Dam" (taken with 35mm Ilford SFX, scanned and printed digitally with HP archival-quality paper and inks) is on view there and can also be seen on the online gallery for the show. It is available for sale. Anyone interested in purchasing a print can contact me through the link above. 4 May 2008Yet another speaking engagement! This time I have been kindly invited to present a slide show to the Current Events Club. The Club was founded in 1892 in Gardiner, Maine by alumnae of a weekly history class held from 1882 to 1890 by Laura E. Richards, who later won a Pulitzer Prize for the biography she and her sister wrote about their mother, Julia Ward Howe. The Fogler Library at the University of Maine states that "The purpose of the Club is to promote intellectual development and discussion of current events." That I will try to do, with my presentation "Visiting Egypt: Selected Notes from Two Archaeological Journeys, 2002 & 2007." 3 October 2007News has just arrived this morning that Rich Horton has selected my short story "The Rope: A New Tale of the Antique Lands" to appear in his Fantasy: The Best of the Year 2008 Edition. After years of being an honorable mention, and considering that Rich reads something on the order of 1,500 stories a year, I greatly appreciate the promotion. You can pre-order the book from Amazon (and please do!) 13 October 2007 The World Fantasy Convention program committee has been hard at work. You will be able to see me at 3 PM on Saturday, November 3, seated among my esteemed colleagues Gene Wolfe, Diana Paxson, and David Drake, discussing "Pre-Christian Ghosts." (Thank you, Darrell!) Karen Jordan Allen will be lurking in the audience, and I hope to put her knowledge of Aztec culture to at least a little use on this topic, since we four seem to have Old World specialties....
17 February 2008My latest anthology will be published by Down East Books in August, but here is a sneak peak at the cover... and the new title. Details will be posted in coming months on the anthologies page. Meanwhile, I have been busy writing for an upcoming book on world mythology, as well as a novel (or two). ![]() 12 March 2008 On 18 March I will present a slide show, "Capturing Egypt," at the Capital Area Camera Club meeting, 160 Water Street, Hallowell Maine. The meeting begins at 7 PM and the show is open to the public. COMMENTS? E-mail me. |
